From
the magic of oriental traditions to the sophistication of the western
world, Ajmal Perfumes' route to success over the last five decades has
been an interesting mix of the best that the two genres have to offer.
Fifty years since the seeds of this business were first
sown in a small trading cell in India, the Ajmal family business has grown into
a multifaceted organization with links that cover the entire perfume industry.
It all began at a time when the Arab world was fascinated
by India. The Arabs who visited India in the 40s and 50s had trading uppermost
on their agenda. While trading was the force that propelled them to India's
commercial capital, Bombay, it was the appeal of Indian perfumes that caught
their fascination. This coincided with the time when Ajmal Ali first stepped
onto the shores of Bombay.
A farmer by tradition, Ajmal Ali had an ambitious streak
and a drive to achieve. Hailing from Assam, which is the source of Agarwood,
the prime ingredient in oriental perfumery, he hit upon a potential gold mine.
Eager to tap this vital segment, he began blending perfumes and soon turned
supplier of perfume oils. As business prospered and grew, Ajmal Ali felt
compelled to extend the organisations' network into the Middle East.
Since the shift to Dubai in 1976, when Ajmal opened
its first outlet in the United Arab Emirates, today Ajmal has a network of over
55 exclusive company owned showrooms across the Middle East. With a significant
presence in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman, Ajmal has developed
into a powerful brand in the premium perfumery segment.
